Digital blood pressure monitor measurement principle

Electronic blood pressure monitors usually use the oscillometric working principle. When in use, the blood pressure cuff is wrapped around the limb of the patient being measured, and the cuff is pressurized until the arterial blood flow is blocked. The relationship between the oscillation wave caused by the pulsation of arterial blood flow during the inflation and deflation of the cuff and the cuff pressure is measured, and the auscultation method is used as a reference to automatically achieve an indirect measurement of arterial blood pressure. The pressurization method can be automatic or semi-automatic.

Selection of digital blood pressure monitor

Can digital blood pressure monitors be used safely?

---- Lets talk about how to select a suitable electronic blood pressure monitor from the following aspects.

(1) The relationship between digital blood pressure monitors and medical mercury blood pressure monitors

People often conclude that digital blood pressure monitors are accurate or inaccurate after comparing them with mercury column blood pressure monitors. Scientifically speaking, the blood pressure measurement results of qualified digital monitors and mercury column monitors are consistent and can be used with confidence. This is because the digital bp monitor uses the auscultation method of a mercury column monitor to measure blood pressure as the reference standard.

(2)Digital blood pressure monitors are not suitable for everyone

It should be said that the digital bp monitor currently sold on the market are basically qualified and can measure blood pressure more accurately. However, when making the choice, it should be noted that different types and brands of digital monitors have different measurement ranges and applicability to the patient population. The blood pressure value measured by the digital type is accurate only within the allowable blood pressure measurement range and the applicable patient population. If it exceeds the applicable range of the digital bp monitor, the blood pressure measurement will be inaccurate or may not be measured.

(3) Types of digital blood pressure monitors

Digital blood pressure monitors are divided into arm type and wrist type. When choosing an bp monitor, these two different types should be considered according to the applicable population.
